The perfumer's palette is far richer today since the roots of modern perfumery is based on the materials found in nature, i.e. the essential oils. Show casing this data can be a challenge. The Essence's of Perfume Materials my new book is a concise guide to the goods and services offered in this area.

It is based on the Art of Fragrance Ingredients plus Addendum. Many of the materials are here today. However, due to over regulation an organization in Europe is attempting to prohibit the use of these wonderful essence's. Keep in mind the synthetic materials based on petroleum are produced by the large fragrance houses. The popularity of synthetic materials, and artificially created bases is based on cost parameters not whether any given material is better or safer to use. These artificial essences are based on aroma materials found in nature.

Of course there is a conundrum of conflicting view points on this matter. Very little is done to test the finished blends prior to their entry on the market. Part of this is due to the fact of the many new launches, and the endless pressure on an artist to come up with something new and exciting. In reality there is very little new except the misinformation created by the advertising, marketing, and public relation folks. Well intentioned, but nevertheless are ignorant to what the art actually is.

There are many possible combinations and permutations within any given fragrance blend otherwise known as a composition. How an artist combines the materials can create a delightful fragrance. The essential oils offer diffusion and body within a blend. Like any item in a modern formula what works, and doesn't depends on experimentation and experience
